Tang entered the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) in 1995, where he studied the clarinet with Martin Choy. In 1998, he continued his study at The Royal Academy of Music (RAM), London, where he completed his Bachelor of Music (Hon) and Postgraduate studies. Before his return to Hong Kong, Tang received his Masters’ degree from The Trinity College of Music (TCM), London. His teachers included Nicholas Rodwell, Keith Puddy and Richard Addison at RAM, as well as Michael Whight, Keith Puddy and Anthony Jennings at TCM.
While studying in London, Tang was a member of the RAM Symphony Orchestra, RAM Concert Orchestra, RAM Sinfonia, TCM Sinfonia, Richmond Chamber Orchestra and Golders Green Orchestra. He was invited to play in London Viola Festival in Harlow, St. Martin in the Fields, Blackheath Hall and at Ashover Music Festival. As a member of the Asian Youth Orchestra, he performed with the famous international soloist Yo Yo Ma in Hong Kong, China and Korea in 1997.
Tang is an active performer in Hong Kong. As a soloist, Tang performed Krommer Clarinet Concerto for two clarinets with Hong Kong Camerata in 2008 and Weber Concerto No.2 with Hong Kong Symphonic Band in 2004. From 2007 to 2008, he appeared as the concertmaster at Hong Kong Wind Philharmonic. Tang acted as the acting second clarinet at Hong Kong Sinfonietta from 2006 to 2008 and as Guest Principal and bass clarinet at Macao Orchestra.
